When technology develops at a greater rate than human wisdom, compassion and ethics, it can have negative impacts on society by shortening the time window for suffering to occur or magnifying it so it can affect many more people.

Thinking and reasoning is inherently dualistic, dividing up a naturally integrated reality into abstract bits and pieces.  This is no more evident than in the fields of technology and engineering, where research can be done and technology created (as in research and development in weapons) without much ethical consideration. There is an asymmetrical relationship between technology and ethics. For while ethics is often unnecessary to create new technologies,  the applications of new technology will often have profound impact upon ethics. Once a new technology is introduced into society, it can affect an entire complex ecosystem with complex interdependencies.

Technology, when applied without wisdom and compassion is like a runaway car…..we need to regain control again before it does harm.
