The global economic machinery is an unfeeling, anonymous, faceless entity based upon free markets, unlimited growth and matching consumption. The manufacturing and resource extraction industries are major building blocks of the capitalist supply chain. Together, this system produces goods for anonymous consumption. The social and environmental disconnection between the objects which consumers buy and where they came from enables effective and ongoing exploitation and damage.
The modern capitalist system has no room for valuation of culture and indigenous peoples and their ancient traditions are often the first casualty to fall to the resource extraction industry.
